SwitchBack Rugged Ultra Mobile PC from Black Diamond Advanced Technology
A few words about SwitchBack Rugged UltraMobile PC
Justin Dyster and Shane Lewis started to work on this project 2 years ago, when they left one of the major defense company they worked for. They now own a company called Black Diamond Advanced Technology and they are just about to launch SwitchBack Ultra Mobile PC to market.
SwitchBack Ultra Mobile PC is larger than a PDA but more compact than a tablet PC. It was designed with military specifications in mind, to withstand moisture, extreme shocks, dust, extreme temperature, etc. It meets Ingress Protection rating of IP67. This qualifies SwitchBack Ultra Mobile PC as having great protection against the intrusion of solid objects, dust and water.
Weighing just three pounds, and small enough to fit inside a cargo pant pocket, this is the world's first rugged ultra mobile PC, the SwitchBack. Designed by Black Diamond Advanced Technology, this rugged computer with the power of a desktop PC, but designed to withstand extreme shock, moisture, vibration, dust, sub-zero cold and scorching heat, is made for field workers involved in public safety and military operations, and for industries such as warehousing, logistics and field services.
The fact that the company is not large, made it very difficult to launch the product on the market, since a sustained marketing effort was required. That is where Avnet Electronics Marketing comes into play. Avnet recognised the vision of the 2 creators of SwitchBack Rugged Ultra Mobile PC and got involved in marketing the product.
SwitchBack is also very versatile, allowing users to add to it a lot of devices from a large number of industries, like for ex, used by Police department, a police man may add a device to it for scanning a driver's license bar code.
The first unit is scheduled between late August and early September and 3000 units are planned to be built for 2007.
