POWER6, the most powerful processor, released by IBM

Yesterday, May 21, IBM released the fastest processor of the moment, Power6, a dual-core processor which runs at a speed of 4.7GHz. The nice thing is that Power6 processor uses the same amount of energy to run and to cool down. Power6 doubled the speed, compared to its predecessor, Power5. This second statement, combined with the previous one, tells us that customers can either use the same energy to double the speed (using the new processor), either to use half of energy for the same speed.

Really impressive is the processor bandwidth, 300GB per seconds, could download the entire iTunes catalog in about 60 seconds – 30 times faster than HP’s Itanium, as IBM's press release says.

Read more about it on the official press release, here.
