Panasonic Upgrades Rugged Mobile Computers Line, With The New Toughbook 19 Convertible Tablet PC

Panasonic has upgraded the new Toughbook 19 series with additional computing power and memory. Rugged laptops have never been more powerful as well as heat management for applications in extreme environments.

The new Panasonic Toughbook 19 convertible tablet PC incorporates the Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with speeds of 1.06 GHz and a 533 MHz front side bus (FSB).

It also features expanded memory of 1 GB SDRAM standard, which can be increased to 4 GB; and an 80 GB hard drive.

128GByte notebook SSD from Toshiba

Toshiba announced that they are ready to release a 128 GByte SSD for notebooks and the initial market will be Japan. Toshiba managed to reach this capacity using the multilevel cell NAND flash technology. Most SSDs today are single-level cell drives, which store 1bit of data in each memory cell. MLC drives, on the other hand, store 3 or more bits in each cell. While MLC drives have slower transfer speeds and higher power consumption, they are also far less expensive to make.

Asustek launches laptop for developing world

Taiwan computer maker Asustek Computer Inc. on Tuesday launched its low-cost laptop computer, one the company said will put the internet within reach of users in the developing world.

Asustek said the Eee PC, which will be marketed under the company's ASUS brand, has a combination of compact size, rugged build and low-cost that will make it an attractive option for people unfamiliar with computers, the company said in a statement.
