Intel decides to go for WiMax Over 3G for Centrion

Recently, Intel reported that they will go for WiMax instead of 3G. This announcement was made last month by Intel Mobile Platform Group, prior to opening an Intel Developer Forum in Beijing.

The decision was sustained by numbers, the predicted "attach rate" is 95%, with an estimate of 100 million users by the end of 2008.

Intel will leave 3G to third party developers.

Recently,Intel started to work on a directional antenna that will boost the range of WiFi to 60 miles. At this point, WiFi hotspots transmits to a few hundred feets only.
