Intel joining OLPC is one of the best ideas in the last period of time

A team is better than the separate parts of it

I was thinking these last days about Intel joining OLPC movement. To be honest, I think it is the best thing that happened to this movement lately. Why I say this? Well, it is obvious, Intel is a force in IT and having it as an opponent is never a good idea. Competing against Intel or against any other force is not a good idea.

That is from the pint of view of OLPC. From the point of view of Intel I think it is also a good idea due to the fact that they join something that already earned media attention, already got some good publicity. If I think about it I would say that the work volume to reach where OLPC is would have quite a cost so why spending money on this just to beat the competitors when you can join them and earn money on long term, plus visibility, market, etc.

Also Intel will gain points at "good will" for joining a research project and on long term, this "good will" image will transform itself in money. That is my personal opinion and if you want, I would like more and more large companies join forces in order to produce this $100 laptop for poor countries.

Plus the fact that on long term (again this long term) children using it will become your customers purchasing laptops of thousands of dollars. And this will bring you money...again on long term.
