FireWire on laptops
The fact is simple: we had USB 1.1 that had a speed of 12 Mbps.
Then came FireWire with it’s 400 Mbps! Wow, it is a lot, you’ll say!
Yes, FireWire was used indeed for connecting fast speed demanding external devices such as video devices, for example. It was good!
But then USB 2.0 came on the market with it’s 480 Mbps.
Apple released a better version of FireWire, FireWire 800 which works at 800 Mbps and now, that’s fast!
But keep on your mind that these speeds that we are speaking about are the maximum speeds of the USB, it does not mean that you are going to upload a movie (let’s say) on an USB 2.0 devices in under a minute due to other devices constraints.
But it will never hurt to have everything updated on this line, so , if you want to make a good choice, go with FireWire 800, it will only help you if you are going to use high speed external devices.
