Assure your laptop is Ethernet compatible

Ethernet refers to the family of local-area network (LAN) products.

Three data rates are currently defined for operation over optical fiber and twisted-pair cables:

10 Mbps—10Base-T Ethernet
100 Mbps—Fast Ethernet
1000 Mbps—Gigabit Ethernet

A lot of laptop computers offers built-in Ethernet adapters and a lot of locations offers Ethernet connections. A lot of hotels offer this for a small extra fee.

Be sure you have an Ethernet adapter, it will help you a lot on different locations you may go. You will have the need of connecting to the internet and the Ethernet adapter will give you the possibility.
