I hope I can find enough time for my rugged laptops blog again

Monday, March 31st, 2008

I am trying to find enough time to write on this blog again, about all those rugged laptops and notebooks, about all those funny little gadgets that are hard to crush and break! How about it? Am I back to life or what?

I try now to get things in order, to make it work, even if I am not that sure I will find the time for it. However, I ask myself if a small tutorial on how to buy a laptop, not only ruggedized notebooks, would be good or not. I think that people need to know how to buy a laptop since there are so many around here and some tips would be good. The same way I have this rugged notebooks guide, I think it would be great like this.

Are there any news about rugged laptops

How about it?There are plenty of news about it. Plenty of people interested also. And I observe that lately, more and more people want to buy such ruggedized and semi-ruggedized gadgets just for not spending money that will be lost in a small accident like spilling water over it. Like for ex, mobile phone, PDAs, etc. Why buy a normal PDA when with just a bit of a difference you can get a great looking, tough to break rough PDA? Think about it. The same for notebooks, tablet PCs, etc.

No time for rugged laptops lately

This last period of time I didn’t blog at all about rugged laptops, ruggedized notebooks or anything like it. Actually, to be honest I didn’t blog about anything else than electric guitars, on GuitarFlame.com but this is out of this blog’s topic.

I will try to spend more time on this site to post again about rugged laptops, even if it is more and more difficult for me to find the time for it. I will try to come back with news, maybe some reviews and prices since I have seen you love this. I will see…

First keep the performance, then the price

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

I understand that as days go by, people or at least governments start to order more and more XO laptops. It is good, but I have started to wonder, after reading a post on RuggedNotebooksBlog.com about market being invaded with cheap rugged laptops in the future, if this is going to happen or not. I think that there will always be a good market for regular laptops, for rugged laptops as well for those cheap ones that for sure will not offer high performances for the price.

I don’t want to say anything against XO or OLPC, the initiative is great and it will help a lot of people (children) learning computers and stuff, but I don’t think that producing cheap laptops on large scale is an answer. We need performance to go on, we need speed, we need power for our processors  and these cost money.

Well, don’t get me wrong, I think that getting the price down will be good, since I always love to not spend very much for a product, whatever that is, but ok, let’s cut the price down to how much we afford without losing  facilities or performance.

This is my opinion. Rugged laptops need strong shells, good displays that withstand bumps, hits, components that are stronger than regular ones. All these cost money. Let’s keep it up with performance. If we could also cut the price down at least a bit, it will be great also.

What do you think?
